The Kappaladoddi Elderly Weavers’ Project is an initiative by the Sphoorti Foundation, dedicated to supporting elderly couples in Kappaladoddi village, Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh. These individuals, once skilled weavers, have aged out of the workforce and now face economic hardships. Since COVID-19 we have been supporting over 60 families every month with groceries.
Purpose and Impact
The project aims to provide these senior artisans with essential support, including food, healthcare, and other necessities, ensuring they live with dignity and comfort in their later years. By addressing their immediate needs, the initiative also seeks to preserve the rich cultural heritage of handloom weaving that these elders represent.
Community Engagement
Beyond material assistance, the project fosters a sense of community and belonging among the elderly, recognizing their contributions and ensuring they are not forgotten. This holistic approach not only improves their quality of life but also strengthens community bonds.
